Betta fish are used to living in water that is between 75 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit – and he will become listless and unresponsive if the water is too far above or too far below that temperature. Bigger the tank bigger the problem.
They get stressed and restless in higher temperature and have a hard time to keep body temperature up in low temperatures. Its easy to deal with this kind of situation if the tank is big. You can simply use an Aquarium Heater. But this become a really big problem if you pet Betta is living in a bowl or small 5 gallon tank.
Now there is a solution for this problem. There is a cool new product which would help you to keep your Betta safe in low temperature periods. Mini Aquarium Heater for up to 5 gallon tanks would sort your problem. Also there are bigger version for 10 gallon tanks.
Its suitable for marine and tropical aquariums and easy to hide in mini tanks and bowls. Its super Safe, wouldn't damage if left running dry. It can raise temperature approximately 5 degrees Fahrenheit in a 2 gallon tank and 4 degrees Fahrenheit in a 5 gallon tank.
One thing to remember is Mini Aquarium Heater helps increase by a few degrees the water temperature of mini aquariums compared to the room temperature where they are positioned. So since they say this works upto only 5 gallon they probably meant it. It won't help trying to using this for bigger tanks like 10 gallons. There are bigger 15W Mini Heaters for 5-10 gallon tanks.
Another important thing to remember is these mini heaters don't have temperature controls, so the water temperature will change when the room temperature changes. Its better unplug the heaters on very hot days or in summer where temperature is high. Or it would be really handy to use these cheap Floating Thermometers. It gives the correct temperature and its small so it doesn't take up too much space in the aquarium tank. Even I have one of these in my Discus fish tank and it works perfectly.
