My Gold Barbs

Gold Barb are my favorite kind of barb. They are colorful and very peaceful than barb kinds like tger barbs. Gold Barb mind their own business rather than nibbling fins of other fish. SO they are ideal for a peaceful community Aquarium. They were not in my fish list for Octagon tank I bought them because I know they fit it perfectly.

At fish shop there were 5 pairs left and I got them all for just $1 ! They are not so common here so it's a great price. There is a huge female among my Gold Barb but I think most of them are males. Gold barb are but shy than other barb kinds like Tiger Barb or Rosy Barb. Usually barb swim boldly and free when they are in bigger schools but Gold barb prefer to stay in back of tank most of the time when someone is around. Maybe this will stop after a while, I hope. Also It seems they prefer to stay same place like resting rather than swimming around the tank fast like Tiger Barb. They are very active and come rushing when you feed them.

Sometimes Gold Barb are mistaken as Golden barb because they look bit similar. But they are from different countries. Gold Barb are orginally from Red River basin in southeast China. The popular gold strain ( Gold Barb or Schuberti Barb ) was developed by hobbyist Thomas Schubert of Camden, New Jersey in the 1960s through selective breeding. For many years it was thought to be a distinct species but is in fact a selected sport of the indigenous (green) species which is rarely found in aquariums.

The Golden barbs originate from Bengal in central India were they are found in calm slow moving waters. Also Golden barbs found in Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Golden barb is often confused with the Gold barb. The two species have very different appearance and size but are confused with each other due to the similar names.
